Yay for Passing ACLS!

So week 21 was super busy. It included at lot of studying for ACLS and stressing out. We took our test on Friday which I passed and then it was on the the "mega code". Sound scary ... it was! All our patients about died but don't worry I saved mine! I ended up drawing number 6 ... the last to go, so I got to watch everyone else first. That was my saving grace! So the hearts are done for 2 years ... hopefully I will not need/use this info until I have to renew.
On to kumquat ... we are now into week 22 ... you know what that means ... only 2 weeks left until the big week! Now granted we have a white boy and they tend to survive the worst so in reality we are looking at week 28 as the viability week but still! Hopefully we will cruise through the rest of the pregnancy and deliver somewhere between 38-40 weeks! Kumquat has become much more active in the past few days. I think he is growing too as my tummy is starting to stretch out a little. One gross thing I noticed this week is my cute belly is no longer so cute. It is getting wider and shallower. Now granted it is not poking out or anything, definitely still an innie, it kinda grosses me out. I guess I just never thought about it before I was in the bathtub the other night and noticed how shallow it is! I know this is petty but still it is gross! My next appointment to check on kumquat is on 8/8/08, almost 25 weeks. I will get to drink the wonderful gulcola, gestational diabetic test drink, and get my finger stuck! Yay for fun appointments to look forward too.
Upcoming events: Lauren's wedding weekend in Nashville is 8/2/08 (marking week 24!). Since this is probably one of the last times we will be able to get away for awhile Jerms and I are making a weekend out of it. Jason and Dyana are making the trip with us and we are going to shop and eat the weekend away! I can't wait!
I hope yall have a wonderful week!

ACLS and week 21

First off I can't believe that we are already 21 weeks into this pregnancy! Only 3 more to go until the big 24 week mark! I cant wait! Kumquat has become a lot more active in the past few days and seems to love to be awake from 11pm to 2-3am. Just like his momma I guess. We will have to work on that schedule when he gets here or Jeremy won't know what to do with himself! Nothing much else is going on. We are starting to fill his closet with cute clothes. Thank goodness that most stores are like 75% girl things or I would be broke! Dyana and I had a fun filled shopping experience this Saturday and managed to find a lot of cute things! Baby Gap and Osh Kosh will be our favs I think!

Well on to week 21. This week I have to take ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) or way hard CPR. So since we have patients that are under general anesthesia from time to time ... like MAYBE one a month (and in what reality am I going to be taking care of them) they decided to make it mandatory for all L/D RNs to be certified. I mean we can pass the class but would you really want me doing this to you if 1. I have never done it before 2. I only have to take this class every 2 years and don't use it in between and 3. I have never even heard of much less given the drugs I am about to push through your IV? I don't think so! So since I haven't looked at, thought about, or read about a heart since nursing school I have been studying my butt off and I still don't understand or like it! I mean I will look at babies/women/whohas/and goo all day but please don't make me learn about a heart! So just pray 1. I pass 2. I never have to actually do this and 3. you don't try to have a heart attack / die while I'm around and expect me to "fix" you (but if your are about to deliver your baby I can help you out)!

I hope yall have a great week!

It's A ... BOY!!!

So yesterday was our "big" ultrasound! Little munchkin turned just right with legs wide open and we definitely have a boy growing in there! He is too cute. There was tons of fluid around his face so we got great face shots! He also looks great anatomically with a great fluid volume, placenta, and 3 vessel cord! He has a 4 chamber heart, a full bladder, 2 kidneys, a smart looking brain, and a tummy! Thankfully he is growing wonderfully in the 58% so not to big and not to small. He weighs about 14oz at this point and is measuring right on target! Check back later for some picture updates!

July 4th!

Happy July 4th to all!
We enjoyed a relaxing day of Jeremy's family reunion, time with his parents and sibs and then a great time to chat on the way home while enjoying the fireworks show from the road! We ventured home tonight because I unfortunately have to work tomorrow. So on to baby news kumquat turns 20 weeks old in 2 hours!!! That means we are exactly 4 weeks from viability and half way through the pregnancy. Kumquat was very active today in the pool I guess s/he is going to be a water and sun lover like his momma! Remember to pray for us on Thursday at 3pm. That is the ultrasound time! Pray for: a healthy baby, a good placenta, and some wide open legs! I am going to be super busy this week so hopefully that will make the time go by faster. I have to take Advanced Cardiac Life Support (just the pre class), aka ACLS for future posts, on Monday; I work Mon, Tues, and Wed nights; the ultrasound is on Thurs afternoon; and then I am on call Thurs night all night long. Hopefully I will have time to update with gender news! If not look for an update on Friday! I hope yall have a wonderful week!

Baby Names

So a friend informed me that we need to post the names that we are thinking about!

Girl Names

  • Emma Kathryn (called Emma Kate)
  • Addelyn

So if you know a good middle name to go with Addelyn send it my way!

Boy Names

  • Bronner (Maybe middle name James / McKee)

If you think of any middle names let me know! These are really hard for us. We can't agree on any boys names. Actually this is the only boys name we have even both liked. If you have any suggestions let me know! Just don't get offended if you don't like or choose your name! Just think one day you will get to use it!

The First Half of Our Pregnancy

So I have never blogged before but friends have encouraged me to start a blog of baby Junkin! I guess we will begin in March when we found out we were expecting and catch yall up to date! Jeremy and I had been "trying" to get pregnant for quite some time. After experiencing a miscarriage in December 2007 we were ecstatic to be pregnant again. A little worried but really excited. March 13 2008 was the day we found out only 3 weeks and 5 days into this experience. Well yall know that I work around pregnant people all the time so I know how EARLY this is. Of course this added to the anticipation. The following week we had HCG levels drawn and they were doubling as expected! Skip ahead to the middle of April ... we finally told our parents at 9 weeks! Of course they were beyond excited! Seeing that I had made it farther into the pregnancy than last time and the ultrasounds looked great! So after weeks of puking and hiding in the house we got to break the news. One sad note in here: due to puking I missed one of my great SU friends Pammies wedding. :( Sometime during this trimester baby Junkin was nicknamed kumquat from Jeremy. On babycenter.com there is a link that will show you the real life size of your baby week to week. Well one week it was a kumquat and ever since that has been his name! At week 12, and the end of the 1st trimester, we finally told friends and co workers! Well most of my co workers already knew (due to the puking day/night/whenever syndrome!) and of course they can spot preggo people from a mile away! But everyone else was finally informed of our news and the scariest part of the pregnancy was over!

So since I work in a place that had all access to ultrasounds and dopplers to listen to heartbeats I have hundreds of pictures and memories! What a blessing! May 3 was a really special night at work. It was a Sat and we weren't very busy. After 5 mins of searching we found kumquats heartbeat with the doppler = 157! Weeks 12-16 were pretty boring, mind the puking. Other than that kumquat continued to grow on ultrasound and every time we looked = legs crossed and no parts visible! Week 16, June 7th, was when I finally started feeling movement. Now not kicks and things that Jeremy could feel but more like butterflies and such! What an amazing feeling to feel your baby kicking inside of you! (Side note: How can you not know your pregnant! Never again will I believe this when my patients say ... "I just didn't know") Week 19, June 30, is when Jeremy was finally able to feel kumquat kick! He was amazed!

Coming up: July 10th is the major ultrasound day! At 3pm Jeremy and I go to find out what kumquat is! Boy/Girl we really don't care. We really just want a happy, healthy, full term baby! Hopefully though s/he will grace us with wide open leg and a good view of his/her parts! Everyone except of my sister Caitlin thinks it is a boy so we will see how accurate our gut feelings are!

Now as a labor and delivery nurse these next few weeks will be the scariest for me. Viability will be a huge celebration day! Aug 2, 2008 marks 24 weeks and 0 days! The considered age of viability. Now granted we want to deliver at 38-40 weeks! We will be celebrating in Nashville at Lauren's wedding! Since she is an NICU nurse she shares in the excitement of viability day!

So I think that catches us up to date! I hope you enjoy our 40 week experience and can't wait for yall to meet kumquat!
